East Midlands Development Agency

www.emda.org.uk

emda is one of nine Regional Development Agencies in England, set up in 1999 by Government to bring a regional focus to economic development.

Independent evaluation conducted ten years on shows emda has had a significant impact on the region's economy - generating economic benefits that substantially outweigh its overall costs and a wider impact on people, places and businesses in the East Midlands that cannot be captured by figures alone.

During these challenging times, emda continues to support business and regeneration activities by:
• bringing forward major capital schemes to provide an ongoing stimulus for the regional economy
• helping businesses survive the recession and thrive in future by innovating to gain a competitive advantage and boosting the skills of employees.

Over the long term, emda's aim is to deliver the Regional Economic Strategy - A Flourishing Region - by working in partnership with public, private and voluntary organisations. mksm is an important cornerstone in this strategy and the Regional Spatial Strategy, since it holds the potential to drive economic growth in the South of the East Midlands over the next decade.

emda is delighted to be sponsoring this year’s conference. It will bring together all stakeholders that are delivering this important element of the Government’s growth agenda, helping to unlock the potential of mksm for the benefit of future generations.

EEDA has a clear mission – to improve the economy of the East of England.
So whether it’s helping businesses through the recession, supporting people to be the best they can or breathing new life into places, everything we do comes back to our mission.

EEDA helps people gain new skills, be the best they can, and make a really positive contribution to their workplace and the East of England’s economy.

EEDA invests with partners to regenerate and rejuvenate places, making the East of England an even better place to live, work and learn in.

With the growth that is planned in the East of England and the with the changes in climate that are forecast it is essential that we work collaboratively with other organisations so that we work together to focus on building design and management to ensure that the right infrastructure is built and can be sustained over the next century.

This collaboration is typified by our work with local partners and other regional organisations to deliver the growth planned within MKSM

South East England Development Agency

www.seeda.co.uk

SEEDA is the Government funded agency set up in 1999 responsible for the economic and social development of the South East of England - the driving force of the UK's economy.
The economy of the region is the 22nd largest in the world, bigger than several countries including Denmark, Austria, Sweden, South Africa, Singapore and Greece. As home to over eight million people, it is the largest region in the UK - bigger than Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland combined, and covers the counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Kent, Oxfordshire, Surrey and East and West Sussex.

SEEDA's aim is to create a prosperous, dynamic and inspirational region by helping businesses compete more effectively, training a highly skilled workforce, supporting and enabling our communities, while safeguarding our natural resources and cherishing our rich cultural heritage.
SEEDA aims to be a catalyst for change within the South East, working with partner organisations- businesses, education at all levels, local authorities, Government agencies, voluntary and community organisations and many others - to produce clearly recognisable results.

SEEDA also have funds from Government to enable us to invest directly in a range of economic and social development programmes, and are in a position to help secure European Union and private sector investment for the region. Accountable to Government, SEEDA is a business led organisation, governed by a Board whose Members have wide-ranging experience in industry and commerce, local government, education, trade unionism and voluntary service.
From April 2009 SEEDA became part of the South East England Partnership Board, sharing responsibility for regional planning with councillors from the South East England Leaders' Board. Together we will prepare a 20 year regional strategy covering homes, jobs, transport and a sustainable environment. The new strategy will bring together current work included in the Regional Economic Strategy and the South East Plan.
